When cracks form a web like alligator skin, the problem is underneath. We remove the failed area, fix the base, and rebuild it to last.
Alligator cracking — also called fatigue or spider-web cracking — is a pattern of small, interconnected cracks that looks like the scales on an alligator’s back. It’s one of the most serious forms of asphalt damage, because it almost always means the base underneath has weakened. Usual causes include water getting under the pavement, a base that was too thin for the traffic it carries, or heavy trucks repeatedly crossing the same area.
Here’s the important part: you can’t seal or sealcoat your way out of alligator cracking. Crack sealer can’t fill hundreds of tiny connected cracks, and an overlay on top will simply crack again in the same pattern. The only lasting fix is to remove the failed asphalt, correct whatever caused the base to fail, rebuild the base, and repave.
Bama Georgia Paving repairs alligator-cracked areas on driveways, parking lots, loading zones, dumpster pads, and private roads across Alabama and Georgia. We look for the cause — drainage, base thickness, or heavy loads — so the repair addresses the real problem and holds up for years.
Alligator cracking spreads quickly. Water pours through the open cracks, the base gets weaker, and the damaged area grows into potholes and broken pavement. Repairing it early keeps the damage contained and costs far less than waiting until a whole section of your lot or driveway fails.
