Seamless repairs with no cut edges — the existing asphalt is heated, reworked, and fused with new material so the patch becomes part of the pavement.
Traditional patches have edges, and edges are where water gets in. Even a well-built patch has a joint between old and new asphalt that can eventually open up. Infrared asphalt repair takes a different approach: instead of cutting the damaged area out, it heats the existing pavement until it’s workable again, so the old and new asphalt can be blended and compacted together into one continuous surface.
The process uses an infrared heater to warm the damaged area. The softened asphalt is raked and loosened, a rejuvenator is added to restore the aged binder, and fresh hot-mix asphalt is mixed in as needed. Then it’s leveled and compacted, fusing seamlessly with the surrounding pavement. Because there’s little to no material to haul away, repairs are fast and produce very little waste.
Infrared repair works especially well for potholes, depressions, raveled spots, trip hazards around drains and manholes, and open seams between paving passes. It isn’t the answer for areas where the base has failed — those need full-depth repair — and we’ll tell you honestly which method fits your situation.
Because infrared repairs have no cold joints, they resist water intrusion better than many traditional patches and blend in visually with the surrounding pavement. They’re also quick, often allowing traffic back on the same day, which makes them ideal for busy lots and entrances.
